Intraocular lenses

Three material platforms — hydrophobic acrylic, hydrophilic acrylic and PMMA — across a range of optic designs. Every raw material is medical grade and imported from the USA and Europe, and selected for the optic it is going to become.

The material decides the optic

PMMA, hydrophilic and hydrophobic — and when each earns its place

An intraocular lens is only as good as the polymer it is cut from. We work with three platforms so the optic can be matched to the incision, the technique and the theatre it is being used in.

Foldable acrylic

Hydrophobic IOLs

Medical-grade hydrophobic acrylic, imported from the USA

A genuinely hydrophobic acrylic with water content below 0.5%, giving a stable optic surface and a firmer material that resists surface abrasion during loading and delivery. The low refractive index profile is chosen to keep glare and halo to a minimum, which matters most on premium optics.

  • Medical-grade hydrophobic acrylic imported from the USA
  • UV absorber with blue-light filtering chromophore
  • Biocompatibility testing performed on the finished device
  • Water content below 0.5% — free of glistening and whitening
  • No calcification reported on the material platform
  • Harder surface for stability in the bag and fewer handling abrasions
  • Low refractive index to reduce glare and halos
  • High MTF for light transmission through the optic
  • Suited to toric and multifocal optic designs

Hydrophilic IOLs

Medical-grade hydrophilic acrylic, imported from the UK

A 26% water-content hydrophilic acrylic representing the current generation of soft lens material. It balances machining characteristics, refractive index and foldability, so the optic can be cut precisely and still pass through a small incision cleanly.

  • Medical-grade hydrophilic acrylic imported from the UK
  • UV absorber with blue-light filtering chromophore
  • Biocompatibility testing performed on the finished device
  • 26% water content — a leading hydrophilic IOL material
  • Low rate of glistening; no calcification on the material platform
  • Balanced machining characteristics, refractive index and foldability
  • Low refractive index to reduce glare and halos
  • High MTF for light transmission through the optic

Rigid optic

PMMA IOLs

Medical-grade PMMA, imported from the UK

The rigid workhorse optic. PMMA remains the cost-effective choice for high-volume lists and manual small-incision technique, and is the material of choice where an anterior chamber lens is indicated. The harder surface holds its geometry and sits stably in the capsular bag.

  • Medical-grade PMMA imported from the UK
  • UV absorber with blue-light filtering chromophore
  • Biocompatibility testing performed on the finished device
  • Free of glistening; no calcification on the material platform
  • Harder surface for better stability and fewer abrasions
  • Available for both posterior and anterior chamber use
  • Stable positioning in the capsular bag
  • Low refractive index to reduce glare and halos
  • Cost-effective for high-volume surgical programmes

The model range

Nineteen optics across the three platforms

Monofocal, multifocal, EDOF, trifocal and toric designs on the foldable platforms; posterior and anterior chamber lenses plus the capsular tension ring in PMMA. Full specifications — optic diameter, overall length, dioptre range, A-constant, refractive index and cartridge size — are available for every model on request.

Hydrophobic acrylic optics

Foldable hydrophobic acrylic, water content below 0.5%, delivered by injector and cartridge. Suited to incisions from 2.2 mm, and the platform on which our premium optics are built.

Veterinary ophthalmology

The same technology, for patients with four legs

Veterinary intraocular lenses are produced on the same material platforms and under the same process controls as the human range, in the dioptre powers and optic dimensions veterinary ophthalmic surgeons ask for.

Canine lens powers sit far higher than human equivalents, so veterinary optics are made to order against your specification. Talk to us about powers, optic diameter and haptic span.

Questions

Frequently asked

What is the difference between hydrophobic and hydrophilic IOLs?

The difference is water content. Our hydrophobic acrylic holds under 0.5% water, giving a firmer surface and a stable optic; hydrophilic acrylic holds 26% water, making it softer and easier to fold through a small incision. Both are supplied with UV and blue-light filtering.

Is PMMA still relevant?

Yes. PMMA is rigid rather than foldable, so it needs a larger incision, but it remains cost-effective for high-volume programmes and manual small-incision technique, and it is the material used where an anterior chamber lens is indicated.

Do the lenses filter blue light?

All three platforms carry a UV absorber together with a blue-light filtering chromophore.

Do you supply toric and multifocal optics?

Premium optic designs are available on the hydrophobic platform, whose surface stability suits toric and multifocal geometry. Contact us for the current design and power availability.

Can you manufacture to our specification?

Yes — optic geometry, dioptre range, haptic design, packaging and labelling can be built to your specification for OEM and private-label supply.
